After working as a Teacher in Special Needs Education for over thirty years I made the life changing decision to set up The Odd Bobbin in 2015.
Throughout my teaching career I always endeavoured to develop the creative talents of my pupils however complex their disabilities may have been. Supported by “The Young Enterprise” programme and a Yorkshire based banking group, my young adult learners designed & manufactured a range of items to be sold at local events. This provided them with valuable opportunities to learn social and work related skills I believed would help support them in their life after school.
As a result of numerous changes in the UK education system I made the decision to leave an environment I loved and encouraged by friends and family I decided to follow my life long interest in the creative use of fabrics and sewing techniques to set up my own business.
‘The Odd Bobbin’ creates personalised, handcrafted gifts and home accessories, all designed & made in the UK. From our studio in Yorkshire each product is hand cut and sewn using satin edge appliqué methods combined with machine embroidery. I use my attention to detail and understanding of design and colour to create products that evoke thought and care whilst remaining functional within the home.
We hope that you like what we do.
